Private School

After the success of Porky's, the teen sex comedy genre became a goldmine. I'll admit, it's a genre I love. One of my favorite entries was 1983's Private School.

Phoebe Cates, fresh from her sexy role in Fast Times At Ridgemont High, stars as good girl Chris, a student at the Cherryvale Academy For Girls. Chris is in love with Jim, Matthew Modine, a student at the neighboring Freemont Academy For Men. Love these school names. Chris decides that the time is right and decides to give Jim her viginity. The two plan a romantic weekend getaway. Bad girl Jordan, Betsy Russell, has her eyes on Jim and uses her sexual wiles on him to try and lure him away before the big weekend.

There's not a lot of plot, but who cares with a movie like this. There's plenty of funny situations, and let's face it, Cates and Russell are easy on the eyes. It has a game cast, especially for this kind of film. Michael Zorak is a real scene stealer as Jim's horny friend Bubba. The supporting cast includes a lot of familiar faces. Character actress Fran Ryan plays the stern head mistress at the academy. Cates' Fast Times costar Ray Walston plays a naughty, old chauffer. Emmanuelle star Sylvia Kristel pops up as the sex ed teacher...how appropriate. And an unbilled Martin Mull shows up in a cameo.
