Racquet

W

Back in 1979, there was this little tennis comedy named Racquet that seemed to have disappeared off the planet once it left theaters. It looked awful, so of course I wanted to see it. Luckily, 43 years later it has resurfaced on Tubi TV.

The film stars then game show host Bert Convy as a former tennis pro, now tennis instructor, who dreams of owning his tennis court so he can open his own tennis school. In order to come up with the cash he whores himself out to some of his students. To further complicate matters, an old flame, Lynda Day George, re enters his life.

This is painfully bad and incredibly obnoxious. The film is an obvious rip off of Shampoo. Convy is horribly miscast. He is too goofy to be believably irresistible to all woman. The only redeeming factor is the great Susan Tyrrell popping up for one scene.

Avoid this one.
