I thought I would wrap up my Charlie Sheen thread with one of his more obscure films, 1987's Three For The Road.Definately not in the same league as my last two entries. Sheen himself called the film, "a piece of shit that I wish didn't exist and that I was terrible in." I guess he's never sat through an episode of Anger Management.
Sheen plays Paul, an aide to a senator, Raymond J. Barry. Hoping to work his way up the political ladder, he agrees to transport the senator's rebellious daughter Robin, Kerri Green, to a mental institution for teen girls. Paul invites his roommate T.S., Alan Ruck, along for the ride. At first Robin tries to escape, but her and Paul eventually fall for one another. He finds out that her dad has been abusive to her and decides to help her track down her mom, Sally Kellerman. When her dad finds out, he sets out to cut their road trip short.

There was a lot of behind the scenes drama. According to screenwriter Richard Martini, they totally rewrote his original screenplay. Originally, Robin was older and her dad didn't want her in the picture due to her opposing political views. And speaking of her age, it's kind of creepy that Paul hooks up with an underage girl. Of course, it is Sheen we are talking about.
Sheen, Ruck, and Green are all pretty good in this, especially Ruck who adds the comic relief. Sheen and Ruck were both in Ferris Bueller's Day Off before this and Spin City years later. Sheen and Green also played a couple in Lucas. I guess that's why the three work well together.
Like I said, it's not the greatest movie out there, but it's a decent time killer. Not available on dvd/blu ray.
