In my last entry, I wrote about Tim Robbins in the 80's teen sex comedy Fraternity Vacation. Today you get two big names, Johnny Depp and Rob Morrow, paying their dues in the 1985 t&a romp Private Resort.

Jack and Ben, Depp and Morrow, are best friends spending a weekend at a posh resort. On the prowl for women, the two get mixed up in a bunch of crazy highjinks. In their pursuit of getting laid, they have a run in with The Maestro, Hector Elizondo. He's a master jewel thief there to steal a diamond from a wealthy socialite, Dody Goodman. By accident, the boys keep botching his plans and having to run afoul of him.

There's a lot of things I like about this movie. It has a really good cast. Depp and Morrow are fine, but it's the supporting cast that really makes me laugh. Elizondo is really funny in this and doesn't mind looking foolish. And Dody Goodman is always great. She basically plays the same characters she's played in Grease and Splash, but who cares, she's funny. Andrew Dice Clay also pops up as a tough guy wanting to rough up the guys for hitting on his lady. Police Academy's Leslie Eastebrook and Valley Girl's Michael Bowen round out the cast.

I also like that this really plays up the slapstick element. If it wasn't for all of the boobs, it would almost play like a comedy from the roaring twenties.

I'm sure Depp and Morrow don't put this on their resume, but who cares. It's a lot of fun.

Available on dvd.
