One of my favorite Hollywood couples was Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis. Two very hip actors who starred in three great movies together. Yesterday's entry Transylvania 6-5000, The Fly, and today's pick, 1988's Earth Girls Are Easy.
After being jilted by her cheating fiance, Charles Rocket, valley girl Valerie, Geena Davis, doesn't think her day could get any worse. That is until three horny aliens crash land in her pool when she is sunbathing. Valerie befriends the trio and wants to help them fix their ship. It will take a few days to repair, so Valerie and her beautician best friend/boss Candy, Julie Brown, decide to give the guys a makeover so they can fit in. Once they shave the colorful fur off the aliens body's, they discover that they have three, attractive aliens that look human. Valerie has an instant attraction to Mac, Jeff Goldblum, the ship's captain. Zeebo, Damon Wayons, and Wiploc, Jim Carrey, make up his crew. The girls take them out for a night on the town. Surprisingly, the aliens have no trouble fitting in. As Valerie and Mac grow closer, her ex tries to win her back. Valerie must decide if she can find true happiness with another life form.

This sci fi, comedy, musical hybred was directed by Julian Temple, who is the perfect choice for such a hip, little movie. After directing the likes of the Sex Pistols, David Bowie, and Mick Jagger, he definately knows his way around aliens. It was co written by co star Julie Brown, and her MTV roots really show.
I think it's funny that the same year this was released was the same year Davis won the Oscar for The Accidental Tourist. Filming these two back to back shows what a great actress she is. Her and Goldblum always had great chemistry together. Just watch this and The Fly and you will see what I mean. Carrey and Wayons are good together too. It would be a year later when they would reteam on the iconic In Living Color. Brown's MTV persona carries over nicely on the big screen. And Michael McKean is a hoot as Davis' surfer pool boy.
This seemed like it was a lot of fun to make. It definately is fun to watch.
Available on dvd.
