Fot today's forgotten gem from the past year, we travel back to June for the funny and sometimes shocking The Overnight.

Married couple Alex, Adam Scott, and Emily, Taylor Schilling, have recently moved to L.A. and are having a hard time making friends. On a trip to the park with their son, they meet Kurt, Jason Schwartzman, who they instantly hit it off with. Kurt invites them over so that their two kids can have a playdate as well as the grownups. They jump at the opportunity. Once their, they meet Kurt's wife Charlotte, Judith Godreche, and have dinner and drinks while the kids play. They have a blast at first, but as the night goes on, things get weirder and weirder.

This is one of those movies that I don't feel like I can discuss at great length without giving too much away. It's one of those that creeps up on you as you watch it. Did I just see that was a common reaction I had throughout.

The four leads are all very good, especially Scott. He has a very vanity free performance. The script by Patrick Brice is really smart and funny. He gets that it's hard to make new friends the older you get, and that if you are lucky enough to make a connection, do you buy the ticket and take the ride if that connection is incredibly eccentric?

This is kind of like a modern Bob, Carol, Ted, And Alice, except for hipsters instead of the swinger's set. It's a funny flick. And even when it gets weird, stay with it. The payoff is very rewarding.

It's available on dvd, blu ray, and is streaming on Amazon Prime.
