I love a good vampire movie, and one of my favorite vampire films just happens to star Dvaid Bowie, and that is 1983's The Hunger.

Bowie and Catherine Deneuve star as a club hopping vampire couple. They meet other couples at the bar, take them home, slash their throats with Ankh pendants, and feed off of them. It's a perfect set up until John's, Bowie, immortality begins to run out, causing him to age at a rapid rate. He seeks the help of Dr. Sarah Roberts, Susan Sarandon, who studies rapid aging in primates. At first, Sarah is reluctant to help, which drives John into a rage. He returns home and begs Miriam, Catherine Deneuve, to kill him. She say's it's impossible and takes him to the attic where her former lovers who had the same effects as John are kept.

Sarah decides to reach out to John and goes to his home. She meets Miriam, who has designs on Sarah and decides that she will be perfect as her next lover. Sarah can't resist her spell and gives into temptation. When Sarah begins to realize what is happening, she tries to put an end to Miriam, but it could be too late.

Directed with great, visual style by the late Tony Scott, The Hunger is one of the trippiest and sexiest vampire flicks you'll ever see. This was Scott's first big feature, and it was a real showcase of the talent that he would become. All three of the leads are great and seem to get the source material. Plus Bauhaus shows up for a performance.

If you're a fan of vampire films that are a little odd this might be your cup of tea...or blood.

It's available on dvd and blu ray thru Warner Archive.
