I know I've talked at great length in the past about Judge Reinhold's short lived stint as a comedic leading man. As a supporting player in films like Beverly Hills Cop, Ruthless People, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and Stripes he had great success and could hold his own with the likes of Eddie Murphy and Bill Murray. But when it came to starring vehicles, like the under appreciated Off Beat, he hard a time finding an audience. I always enjoyed Reinhold, and one of his best starring roles was in 1985's Head Office.
Recent business school grad Jack Issel, Reinhold, has been hired to work for I.N.C., one of the largest big business cooperations in America. Jack keeps get promotion after promotion in a short amount of time and can't figure out why. It turns out they want to keep Jack's dad, a senator, George Coe, in their back pocket. The higher he gets up the cooperate ladder, the more Jack see's the sleazy side of big business. It really hits home for him when he falls for Rachel, Lori-Nan Engler, a radical protester and daughter of the CEO of I.N.C. Pete Helms, Eddie Albert. Rachel is trying to save a factory that her dad is trying to shut down. Jack wants to help her, even if it means ruffling the feathers of his bosses.

Reinhold, who brings his laid back to charm to the role, is perfect for Jack. And get a load of his supporting cast. You have Richard Masur as Jack's pot smoking mentor, Don Novello, yes Father Guido Sarducci, as a limo driver. Rick Moranis, there's my SCTV connection, as a high strung executive for the company. Danny DeVito as an inside trader trying to avoid the axe. Jane Seymour as a business woman sleeping her way to the top. Plus you have Wallace Shawn, SNL alums Michael O'Donoghue and Brian Doyle Murray, Merritt Butrick from Square Pegs, and Don King, yes that Don King.
Even though it's 30 years old, Head Office still holds up nicely today, and is still pretty relevant. If you are in the mood to laugh at the expense of big business, then Head Office is the movie for you.
It's available on dvd and steaming on HBO Now.
