Since it's an election day, I thought I would look back at an overlooked, hysterical political comedy, 1999's Dick.

Dick is a "what if" story where Woodward, Will Ferrell, and Bernstein's, Bruce McCulloch, contact nicknamed Deepthroat during the Watergate scandal happened to be two, ditzy teenage girls, Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams.

Betsy, Dunst, and Arlene, Williams, sneak out of Arlene's apartment at the Watergate one evening to mail a contest entry to win a dream date with Bobby Sherman. On their way to the mailbox, the Watergate break in is taking place and the two are spotted by G. Gordon Liddy, Harry Shearer. The next day they are on a field trip to the White House and are spotted by Liddy, who warns President Nixon, Dan Hedaya. Nixon tries to get on the girl's good side and makes them the official dog walkers of his pet Checkers.

Arlene develops a crush on Nixon and the two decide to leave him a recording on one of his tapes in his office where she confesses her feelings. They listen to the tape and hear Nixon's rants. They also hear him being abusive to Checkers and decide to take the tape to Woodward and Bernstein.

The film, written and directed by Andrew Fleming is smart and extremely funny. Both Dunst and Williams are great at playing airheads. Williams should do more comedies. Hedaya gives one of the best Nixon performances I've seen. McCulloch and Ferrell are also really silly as the bickering reporters.

Sadly overlooked upon release, Dick is a fun comedy. And perfect viewing during election time.

It's available on dvd.
