Crown International Pictures was one of my favorite studios in the 70's and 80's. They basically worked the drive in circuit with films like Malibu Beach and The Pom Pom Girls. To me, they were kind of the poor man's New World Pictures. New World was definitely known for their b films, but they were also able to attract bigger names and budgets to their productions. I think Crown International really hit their stride right before they closed up shop in the late 80's. Mostly specializing in the teen sex comedy genre, their films were becoming more story driven instead of being a boob fest. I thought I would take a look back at a few of these over the next few entries. First up is 1983's My Tutor.

Matt Latanzi, best know for being Mr. Olivia Newton John at the time, stars as Bobby, a virginal high school senior who has to spend his summer retaking French class so he can graduate. His domineering father, Kevin McCarthy, has hired the beautiful Terry, Caren Kaye, to tutor him. The sex obsessed Bobby finds it hard to concentrate on his studies with such a beautiful instructor and tries to figure out ways to make her fall for him.

I know it sounds like your typical t&a flick, but My Tutor is kind of surprising. It actually has characters you care about. It also helps having Crispin Glover in a scene stealing supporting role as one of Bobby's friends. Kaye is also very good, and very sexy, as the tutor.

My Tutor is a fun and kind of sweet sex comedy.

It's available on dvd.
