With the opening of the latest Captain America movie this week, and the onslaught of superhero movies in general, I thought over the next few entries I would take a look back at some of the ones you might have missed. First up is 2000's The Specials.
The Specials is a group of misfit superhero's with questionable powers who have never got the recognition they deserve. That is until a toy company has decided to make action figures based off of them. On the eve of their big announcement, a rift between the group occurs when their leader, Strobe, Thomas Haden Church, finds out that his wife, Mrs. Indestructible, Paget Brewster, has been having an affair with team member The Weevil, Rob Lowe.

Written by costar James Gunn, who would go on to write and direct the highly successful Guardians Of The Galaxy, The Specials is a very funny, and scrappy, superhero comedy. The game cast also includes Jamie Kennedy, Jordan Ladd, Sean Gunn, Judy Greer, Kelly Coffield, and Melissa Joan Hart.
The Specials had the misfortune of being released around the same time as the bigger budgeted, and similarly themed, Mystery Men. I like both films, but I think The Specials is a lot funnier.

The Specials is definitely one of the funniest superhero films out there.
It's available on dvd.
