Last week, I rewatched a science fiction classic from 1976, Logan's Run. Here's my thoughts.
In the year 2274, a domed society that values youth has a ritual called Carousel. When a person reaches the age of thirty, they have to take part in Carousel to see if they are worthy to continue life. Some don't want to take the chance and run. That's where Logan, Michael York. He is a cop, aka sandman, who tracks down the runners. After Logan meets Jessica, Jenny Agutter, a rebellious young lady who is anti authority, Logan begins questioning the whole Carousel ritual and has years deducted from his life, making him a candidate for Carousel. He and Jessica decide to run and seek out Sanctuary, a place that supposedly harbors runners. But Logan's former partner Francis, Richard Jordan, is hot on their trail.

This is considered by many, myself included, a classic. I'm surprised it's not more well known today. In my opinion it's one of the great science fiction films. I will admit the set design is a bit dated. You can tell a lot of models were used. But as far as context, the film still really holds up well. And the effects and costumes used in the Carousel sequences give the film a creepy vibe. Or maybe it creeps me out because I'm well over the age of thirty.
The cast is really good too. Jordan was actually a last minute replacement for William Devane, who dropped out to be in Alfred Hitchcock's Family Plot.

Logan's Run is a great sci fi film that deserves to be rediscovered.
It's available on dvd and blu ray.
