Zapped!

I'm just going to say it, I love Zapped! It was the summer of 1982, and my puberty laden, 12 year old self was sneaking into every R rated film I could. I remember reading about Zapped! and seeing the ads on tv and thinking this looks pretty funny. When I finally saw it, I laughed throughout the whole movie, and even snuck in a few more times.

Scott "Chachi In Charge" Baio stars as Barney Springboro, a nerdy high school senior who is a whiz at science. One afternoon while working in the student lab, there is a small explosion that knocks Barney out. When he awakens, he has the gift of telekinesis. He let's his best friend Peyton Nichols, Baio's future Charles In Charge costar Willie Aames, and geeky school reporter Bernadette, Felice Schachter, in on his secret. At first he does what any horny high school boy would do, he uses his powers to pop off girls blouses. Bernadette wants Barney to use it towards scientific research while Peyton wants Barney to help him gamble and get with the head cheerleader, Heather Thomas. His gift soon becomes a curse.

Sort of a spoof of Carrie and The Exorcist, Zapped! is a fun film. And the thing that makes it different from the rest of the teen sex comedies of the time is that it had a sweetness to it. Most of the others were just boob fests, but with Zapped! you actually root for Baio to get the girl and not just see her naked. Baio himself has said that this is the project he asked most about by fans.

One of my favorites from my youth that I can still watch today.
