I love it when I come across a movie that I know nothing about, give it a chance, and be pleasantly surprised by it. This happened to me last night with a viewing of the 2009 film A Perfect Getaway.
I purchased this movie about a year ago. It was on a boxed set with the remake of Last House On The Left and The Strangers...don't judge, those are both good movies. I finally got around to watching this and I've just got to say, "wow."
Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich play Cliff and Cydney, a newleywed couple celebrating their honeymoon in Hawaii. While exploring the islands, they hear of a murderous duo who are on the loose and targeting vacationing couples. On their journey, they cross paths with a skeezy hitchhiking couple, Marley Shelton and Chris Hemsworth, and Nick and Gina, Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchaz. Nick is full of stories about his days as a soldier in Iraq. Cliff doesn't trust any of them, and as the journey proceeds, both him and Cydney begin to wonder if one of these couples are the murderers.

This is a terrific film that will keep you guessing throughout. The cast is pretty great, espicially Olyphant who seems to be havng a blast playing this larger than life braggart. The film was written and directed by David Twohy, who also did the terrirfic sci fi film The Arrival. Twohy has a real gift with handling tension and suspense in his films.
A Perfect Getaway is a great little suspense yarn that will keep you guessing througout.

It's available on dvd and blu ray.
