In my opinion, Anthony Perkins was one of the great horror icons. He was right up there with Vincent Price, Bela Lugosi, Christopher Lee, and Boris Karloff. One of his better lesser known films was a retelling of the classic Jekyll and Hyde story, 1989's Edge Of Sanity.
It's the late 1880's in England and Dr. Henry Jekyll is conducting experiments on the human psyche. When he accidentally ingests a mix of cocaine and ether, it unleashes an inner psycho that was craving to be unleashed from the prim doctor. Going by the name of Jack Hyde, the doctor goes out on a murder spree with his target being ladies of the evening. This in turn makes Hyde in actuality Jack The Ripper.

I love Perkins take on this classic character/characters. He puts a modern, goth like spin on it that really works well. I also like that the filmmakers have Hyde playing a double role and is Jack The Ripper as well. Perkins has tackled the battle between good and evil in one man before, but this is close to being one of his most bizarre outings yet.

This is one of my favorite takes on the Robert Louis Stevenson story, and a great showcase for Perkins.
It's available on dvd and blu ray.
