Not only was Anthony Perkins a talented actor, but he was also a great filmmaker. He directed two films, Psycho III, and today's pick, a very silly, black comedy from 1988, Lucky Stiff.

After being left at the alter, an overweight sadsack named Ron, voice actor Joe Alaskey, takes a trip to forget about his woes. While on holiday, he meets the beautiful Cynthia, Donna Dixon. He can't believe his luck when the two hit it off and she invites him home to meet her family. His joy turns to horror however when he finds out that Cynthia is a descendant of the Donner Party and that he is not only the guest of honor, but the main course.

This is a silly comedy, but I like that it shows that Perkins had a sense of humor. I think this was always kind of displayed in his horror films already. This was written by the great comedy scribe Pat Proft, who also cowrote The Naked Gun films.

Pretty much all but forgotten. Lucky Stiff is a fun, dark comedy.

It's available on dvd.
