Black Christmas

At Christmastime, I like watching the most non traditional holiday films. This year, I revisited one of the granddaddy's of slasher films, 1974's Black Christmas.
The set up is simple, a sorority house begins to receive lewd calls at Christmastime as the sisters begin disappearing one by one.

The plot may sound simple, but it is handled skillfully by director Bob Clark. Oddly enough, Clark is probably best known for the holiday classic A Christmas Story. He knows how to build suspense and the editing and photography is top notch. Clark has also assembled a winning cast that includes Olivia Hussey, Margot Kidder, and Andrea Martin as the sorority sisters, and John Saxon as the cop who's trying to protect them.

This is a slasher film done right, and a nice alternative if you are looking for something a little darker to watch this Christmas.
It's available on dvd and blu ray.
