What if Burt Reynolds' favorite costars got together and made a movie without him? Dom DeLuise, Jerry Reed, Ozzie Davis, and Pat McCormick did just that in 1979's Hot Stuff.

Tired of legal loopholes and watching the criminals they bust get off scott free, a group of Miami based detectives, DeLuise, Reed, Suzanne Pleshette and Luis Avalos, go undercover and set up a sting operation. Based out of a pawn shop, the detectives set out to bust criminals trying to fence stolen goods, aka hot stuff. In the process however, they develop a fondness towards the thieves.

This is a fun flick. Deluise made his directorial debut and does a terrific job both in front of and behind the camera. Him and Reed make a great duo, and Pleshette holds her own with the boys club. DeLuise even makes it a family affair by having his family play his on screen brood. Everyone in the cast seems to be having a lot of fun, as does the viewer.

It's not the kind of movie that's going to change the world, but Hot Stuff has a lot of laughs .
It's available on dvd.
