I love it when a movie lives up to it's title, and 1994's The Chase does just that.

An innocent man, Charlie Sheen, wrongfully accused of a crime, makes a run for the border with a spoiled rich girl, Kristy Swanson, as his hostage. The police, media, and even a couple of dimwitted citizens are in hot pursuit of the two and attempt to put a kibosh on Sheen's plans.

When I said that this movie delivers on it's title, I wasn't kidding. This is a 90 minute chase. This helps keep the film tight with very few lulls. Both Sheen and Swanson make a likable couple and are aided by a great supporting cast that includes Josh Mostel, Fle, Anthony Kiedes, Carey Elwes, and Ray Wise. It's Henry Rollins however who really shines as an angry white cop. The same type of cops he protested againsta few years earlier during the Rodney King riots.

When it was released, The Chase was quite timely. It was a couple of years after the Rodney King verdict, and oddly enough came out a few months before the infamous O'J. Simpson Bronco chase that almost mirrored events that happened in the movie. I think The Chase might even be more relevant today in the age of cell phones and dirty cops.

All in all the movie is a run ride. The Chase is available on dvd.
