Underground Aces

The snobs vs. the slobs was kind of a popular running theme in the comedies of the 70's and 80's. 1981's Underground Aces fell into this genre, but failed to find the success of movies like Caddyshack.

Probably the main reason this failed to find an audience at the box office is because there's not a lot of story here. It follows a ragtag group of parking attendants at a swanky hotel and the high jinx they get into to while trying to avoid an inspector, Frank Gorshin, for the establishment.

The film really wants to be Car Wash, but it doesn't have the sharp writing that Car Wash had. That being said, I still kind of enjoy it. It has a game cast headlined by Battlestar Galactica's Dirk Benedict and a young Melanie Griffith. They are aided by Police Academy's Michael Winslow, Welcome Back Kotter's Robert Hegyes, and Doctor Detroit's T.K. Carter.
The movie was directed by Robert Butler and produced by Samuel Z. Arkoff. The two would team again a few years later for a better slobs vs. snobs comedy, Up The Creek.

Like I said, I enjoy the movie, but in all honesty, you are probably better off watching Car Wash or D.C. Cab. It's not available on dvd or blu ray.
