Over the weekend we lost the terrific character actor Bill Paxton. Probably best known for his roles in Twister, Titanic, Apollo 13, and Aliens, Paxton was a solid performer. He has been a fixture on here before as well with his films Near Dark and The Dark Backward. Today, I thought I would take a look back at one of his underlooked starring roles in 1997's Traveller.
Paxton plays a seasoned gypsy con artist who takes his green cousin, Mark Wahlberg, under his tutelage and shows him the ropes. While Wahlberg learns the family trade, and becomes quite good at conning, Paxton starts to tire of his vagabond roots when he fall for someone, Juliana Margulies.

Paxton turns in one of his most laid back and likable performances. He has nice chemistry with both Wahlberg and Margulies. He also served as producer. The film is a great character study and displays a more likable look at the life of a con man.

It's no loger available on dvd, but is on blu ray as a double pack with another great, overlooked film Telling Lies In America.
