With all the talk of building a wall between America and Mexico, I thought it was the perfect time to take a look back at 1987's Born In East L.A.

A Chong less Cheech Marin stars as an Mexican American who is mistaken for an illegal immigrant and is deported to Mexico. With the help of an American con man, Daniel Stern, who resides south of the border, and a waitress, Kamala Lopez, the three hatch scheme after disastrous scheme to get Cheech stateside,

In his first starring role without comedy partner Tommy Chong, Marin struggles a little but isn't bad. His best scenes are when he has somebody to play off of like Stern. Stern is basically playing the same role he would play ten years later in Bushwhacked. Also, I think Marin struggled a little with the potless humor. Even though it's rated R, the film seems kind of clean cut compared to his earlier work. Kind of odd since Marin wrote and directed.

With that being said, it's still kind of fun little movie. It's just not a very memorable one.

It's available on dvd.
