There's no denying that the 80's was a great decade for teen movies. And with so many films to choose from, some of the smaller films were overshadowed. One of those was 1985's Seven Minutes In Heaven.

Three high school friends go through the obsticles, excitement, and pain of first love and growing up. Jeff, Byron Thames, runs away from home after a fight with his stepdad and stays with Natalie, Jennifer Connelly, whose dad is away on business. Jeff harbors his romantic feelings towards the third in their trio Polly, Maddie Corman. But Polly has her eyes set on an older man. A baseball player named Zoo Knudson, Billy Wirth. Natalie begins to date Jeff's friend James, Alan Boyce, who might not be as perfect as she thinks he is. Lots of laughs and tears come as the three deal with their growing pains.

This is a sweet, and sometimes funny, little movie that went under the radar when it was released. All three leads do a terrific job. Especially Corman, who is able to make a sometimes unlikable character pretty likable. I'm not sure why she wasn't a bigger star. She was a real scene stealer in this, Some Kind Of Wonderful, The Adventures Of Ford Fairlane, and PCU.

Seven Minutes In Heaven is a great look into the pains of adolescence. It's available on dvd thru Warner Archive.
