With the release of the terrific Jason Bateman series Ozark on Netflix, I've been on a Bateman kick. So last night I revisited his 2007 comedy The Ex. Her's my thoughts.

With the birth of a baby and a job loss, a young man, Zach Braff, decides to move his family from New York to Ohio and take a position working for his father in law, Charles Grodin, at an ad firm. Not an ideal situation for Braff, and take make matters worse, his mentor, Bateman, is handicapped and just happens to be his wife's, Amanda Peet, high school sweetheart. Bateman still carries a torch for Peet and makes it his goal to break up the couple and make Braff's life a living hell.

This is a funny little flick with terrific performances from all three leads. The supporting cast, which includes Mia Farrow, Amy Poehler, Fred Armison, Amy Adams, Donal Logue, Josh Charles, and Paul Rudd all have some funny moments as well. This was Grodin's return to movies after a thirteen year retirement.

Sadly buried in theaters upon release, The Ex even struggled to find an audience on dvd. I think this was due to Blockbuster having exclusive rights to it when it was first released. This is a fun little flick.
It's available on dvd.
