Today I'm adding a new post where I pick two movies with something in common that would make a great double bill. Today's theme is Free Spirited Hookers And The Nerdy Pimps Who Love Them. The perfect double feature for this is Night Shift and Doctor Detroit.

Night Shift (1982) was director Ron Howard's first foray into big studio filmmaking. He casted his Happy Days costar Henry Winkler in the lead. Winkler plays a wimpy morgue attendant who works the graveyard shift alongside a fun loving, but sometimes obnoxious, Michael Keaton. By the way, Keaton steals the show in his first big screen performance. After seeing that his prostitute neighbor, Shelly Long, has been roughed up, Winkler and Keaton decide to convert the morgue into a base for Long and her escort friends to work out of.
Like I said earlier, Keaton is a riot and this is my favorite film from Howard.

Doctor Detroit (1983) has Dan Aykroyd as a nerdy college professor who comes to the aid of four call girls after their pimp, Howard Hesseman, skips town. Aykroyd, who mostly played the straight man up to this point, gets to cut loose and show a wilder side.
This one is a lot of fun.
Both of these funny flicks are available on dvd and would make for a great double feature.
