Back in the early 80's, all of my friends had cable. I lived in the sticks so I didn't. And at school my friends would tell me about these great movies they caught. One of those was 1982's Jekyll & Hyde...Together Again.

The film stars Mark Blankfield as the mild mannered, brillaint physician Dr. Jekyll. After accidentally snorting his latest experiment, a cocaine like substance, he becomes the sex crazed, party animal Mr. Hyde.

I remember seeking this one out on video after all of the praise my friends had for it. As I watched it I wondered if I was seeing the same movie because most of the jokes just fell flat for me. I recently revisited it, hoping that maybe I would appreciate it now. The answer is still no.

The two main problems are the script, which relies too much on drug humor and cheap laughs, and Blankfield. And here's the thing, Blankfield can be quite a funny performer. Just check him out on the sketch show Fridays or the supporting work he did in some of Mel Brooks' comedies. But in this one, he has to carry the film. And unfortunately he doesn't seem to know what to do with the Hyde character. When he is, he just jumps around snarling which adds up to no laughs.

If this is one you loved in your childhood I seriously doubt it will hold up for you as an adult. It's available on dvd and blu ray.
